Welcome to The Hummingbird Acres
We are glad you are here! We are Tim and Cho Kirkpatrick, the farmers. Our farm and ranch are located in the Routt County, Colorado, U.S.A. Together with a few close friends, we run cattle, put up hay, grow food, sell fiber, handmade goods and designs. We have all sorts of farm animals. Please take your time to meet our ‘farmily’. Do not forget to check out our shop! Thank you for visiting!
Bella - The Guardian
Bella has grown into a beautiful young lady, and Bianchi absolutely adores her. Bella keeps all her family members safe — even the chickens! She's a loyal protector and a gentle guardian to everyone on the farm.
Bianchi - The Prince
Bianchi is our handsome, blue-ribbon winner from the Routt County Fair — and he knows it! He’s full of charm and personality, but his heart belongs to Bella. He’s completely smitten with her and follows her everywhere. Together, they make the perfect farm duo, always looking out for their family.
Mork - The 007
Mork is the James Bond of our farmily — smooth, smart, and just a little mysterious. He gave us a real scare with a health issue in January 2025, but true to form, he bounced back with strength and style. He’s still everyone’s favorite, winning hearts with his cool confidence and curious spirit. The farm just wouldn’t be the same without our 007.
Zirkel - Circle Butt
Zirkle gave us quite a scare last year — from April to July, we were closely monitoring a serious issue with his eye. Thankfully, we didn’t have to remove his third eyelid or the eye itself. With lots of love and care from Cho, Zirkle healed beautifully. He was so gentle and trusting throughout the process, and in that time, we built a truly special bond.
Zirkle is easy to spot — he’s got a little circle marking around his buttocks (hence the name!), and his fleece is on the shorter side. Every year, he blesses us with a lovely batch of roving that we treasure.
Snowball - Mr. Beauty
Snowball is our resident rascal! He absolutely loves water — whether he’s trying to swim or just splashing around, he always finds a way to turn water time into playtime. If he can’t swim, he’ll happily knock over the water buckets just for fun!
Despite his mischief, Snowball never fails to gift us with the softest alpaca yarn. Ohhh, so soft! Thank you, Snowball — you keep us smiling and cozy.
Emily and Shaun - Mama & Son
Shaun the Sheep (front) and Emily (back) were our beloved mama-and-son duo — the wooliest of them all! We are truly blessed to have had them as part of our farm family.
We lost sweet Emily on December 17th, 2024, due to age and the cold. She was the best mama and Cho’s dearest friend. Emily is deeply missed — she was a bottle baby who loved coming up for feedings and greeting everyone who visited. If you’ve ever stopped by our farm, chances are you’ve met Emily. She made sure of it.
We still have Shaun, and we absolutely adore him. He carries on Emily’s gentle spirit and brings us so much joy every day.
Olivia - The Olive
Olivia had a tough time a few years ago with a skin condition on her back. The magpies wouldn’t leave her alone — pecking and tormenting her day after day. Then, someone had a clever idea: put a diaper on her back as a little shield. And it worked! Since then, Olivia has been doing well and happily enjoys her time outside again.
She’s truly precious and oh-so-pretty — her mama’s favorite, no doubt! Olivia is blossoming into quite the lady. She also has a twin sister, Daisy, and has found her place beautifully within the herd.
Daisy - The Other Daughter
Ms. Daisy is truly our miracle baby — lovingly saved by Cho when she was just a lamb. Her mama, Amelia, wasn’t very fond of her, but Daisy found love and comfort in her farm family. She’s especially adored by Zirkle, who’s always close by her side.
Daisy had a broken shoulder early on, but thanks to care and time, it’s healed beautifully. She’s now thriving and as graceful as ever. With her incredibly soft fleece and sweet demeanor, Daisy is a wonderful blend of Rambouillet and CVM — and she absolutely lives up to the title of “miracle.”
The Ladies - Our Seniors
Wow — what a throwback! This old photo reminds us just how far we’ve come. We now have two incredible chicken ladies who are over 9 years old: Cho’s Turkey and The Lady — affectionately known as Turker Kirk and Lady Kirk. These grand dames still have plenty of sass and have recently taken to sneaking out of their coop and wandering into the big yard and the large animal house. They definitely enjoy their freedom!
Our farmily lives in harmony, but Cho is always watchful — especially when it comes to protecting her beloved chicks. Out at the ranch, the foxes have become a little too bold, mingling with both humans and chickens, so vigilance is key.
As for our flock — we're down to just two lovely hens, and while they don’t lay anymore, we like to say they’ve entered a graceful stage of henopause. These ladies may be retired, but they’ve certainly earned their place as cherished elders of the coop.
Aldo & Cassey - The Siblings
We miss them SO MUCH. 💔
Aldo and Cassey, our beloved Australian Silky Terriers, passed away just two months apart — Aldo on April 22, 2022, and Cassey on June 27, 2022. Not a day goes by that we don’t think of them.
These two had quite the journey. Born in Malaysia, they traveled in style on British Airways to London Heathrow, and finally arrived in Denver, Colorado in May 2016. This photo was taken just a few days after they joined us here in the U.S.
Since then, they grew a little older, put on a few well-deserved pounds, and became the heart of our home. Cassey was always a Dad’s girl, and together, they brought endless joy and laughter to our lives.
Their paw prints are forever on our hearts. 🐾❤️
Mac - The Protector Dude
Mac passed away on June 1st, 2024, and it truly broke our hearts. 💔 He was just over 10 years old, and his absence is deeply felt every single day.
Known as The Majestic Mac, he was our steadfast guardian — always watching over the family, day and night. Cho often wonders how the ranch will ever feel the same without Pinny, his loyal presence. Mac had many nicknames, each a reflection of his big personality: Fin, Fin Poo, Dandelion, Protector Dude… and every single one of them was filled with love.
He even had the coolest set of eyebrows — though you might have to look closely in this photo to spot them! Be sure to check out our Gallery for more snapshots of our beloved Fin Poo in all his protective, gentle glory.
Meet Chappy!
Our protector — funny, lively, and our little origami pup! 🐾
This proper little gentleman has quite the story. Originally a stray from Texas, Chappy made his way to us through the Steamboat Humane Society. We first met him on Christmas Eve, and by December 27th, he was officially part of our farmily. As if it were meant to be — he was born on Mommy and Dada’s anniversary. ❤️
Chappy is full of life — super active, always curious, and completely devoted to his people. He loves to follow directions- ya right! (we lovingly call it hatar tar-ring), and he’s always eager to please. And when it’s time to sit, he does so with elegance — paws perfectly crossed, like the well-mannered pup he is.
Now, Chappy thinks he’s a big-time cattle dog — and maybe even the boss of the ranch. But let’s be honest… he’s not quite there yet. 😄 He’s still learning the ropes and needs to be a bit more careful around the big animals. But with his big heart and determination, we know he’s well on his way.
From stray to star, Chappy has found his forever home — and he’s filled it with joy, energy, and endless cuddles.
We are Tim and Cho
